Yin Yoga
Service Description
Yin Yoga is a style of Yoga that directly focuses on the connective tissues (superficial and deep fascia, tendons, and ligaments), joints, and even the bones of the body. When we were children, we were able to move our bodies in so many different ways without much consequence. But over time and as we age, our movements become more precise and deliberate and our fascia (which holds memory) starts to shape itself to accommodate our daily habitual movement patterns. Anything outside of our new normal can often be met with discomfort and sometimes pain. The practice of Yin Yoga helps us to re-establish the shape of our fascia and other connective tissues through specific postures that put direct tension into the connective tissues and joints. These postures use our body weight and gravity to help open these areas. Our connective tissues take time to open up so in Yin Yoga each posture is held anywhere from 2-7 minutes. The other interesting thing about Yin Yoga is that the meridians follow along the same lines as our major fascial bands. Because of this, each posture affects specific meridians in the body and helps clear out and encourage even flow of energy throughout our meridians. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced practitioner, Yin Yoga is beneficial for everyone. Through Yin Yoga, we learn how to go inside and to reconnect with our bodies in innumerable ways. With practice, we start to feel lighter and our movements more fluid. We learn to be in our bodies with equanimity and grace and live our life with less discomfort and much more ease. Jacob Studinger is a 200 CYT with training in Hatha Yoga and specialized training in Yin Yoga.
